Do it yourself! WissKI Cloud as a semantic database for newbies.

Managing research data in a sustainable and interoperable way often requires technical knowledge that many researchers and cultural heritage professionals find challenging. The “Do it yourself! WissKI Cloud as a Semantic Database for Newbies” training will demonstrate how to overcome these barriers by building a virtual research environment from scratch — without any programming skills.

Participants will learn the basics of semantic data and ontologies, explore how to set up a WissKI instance using WissKI Cloud, Recipes, and Flavours, and discover how to manage and input data directly through the Drupal interface. The session will also focus on how to customize the system for individual research needs and how to support and publish 3D data in a semantic, FAIR-compliant environment. To make the workshop hands-on and practical, the organisers will provide ready-to-use datasets related to architectural heritage, which participants will use to record information within their own WissKI instances.

WissKI (Wissenschaftliche Kommunikationsinfrastruktur) is an open-source system designed to make linked open data management accessible to everyone. Integrated with Drupal CMS, it combines powerful ontology-based modelling with user-friendly content management.

The workshop aims to empower participants to build their own research data management systems and take the first step towards sustainable, interoperable, and FAIR digital heritage.
